The work

Everything You Need

Kitchens go wrong in the gaps. The units arrive flat packed and the fitting looks simple, then the floor turns out to be two courses out of level, the old wall has a chimney breast nobody measured, and the end panel has to be scribed to a wall that has not been straight since the house was built. That is carpentry, not assembly, and it is the part of a kitchen fit that decides whether the finished room looks made for the house or dropped into it.

V&M are carpenters first. We take out the old kitchen, put right what is behind it, set the units to a proper datum line, and finish the joinery so the doors line through and the scribes sit tight. We fit kitchens supplied by the big retailers and by independent suppliers, and we work alongside the plumber and electrician so the sequence runs in the right order rather than everybody turning up at once.

Fitting only, or the whole job

This is the first thing worth settling, because it changes what you need from us and what you should be comparing on price. If you have already chosen and paid for your kitchen somewhere else, that is completely normal and it is work we take on.

Fitting only

  • You buy the kitchen from whichever supplier you prefer
  • We check the plan and the parts list before delivery day
  • We take out the old kitchen and fit the new one
  • We finish the joinery around it: scribes, end panels, skirting
  • You arrange your own plumber, electrician and decorator, or we coordinate them

The whole job

  • Everything in fitting only, plus the work around it
  • Layout changes, including forming an opening into the next room
  • First fix alterations behind the units
  • Flooring, finishing carpentry and making good
  • The other trades sequenced around our programme, so nobody clashes
