Cart Lodges
A cart lodge is an open fronted timber framed building used for covered parking and storage, traditional to Suffolk and Norfolk. V&M Home Extensions build cart lodges to suit the plot and the property, in single and multiple bays, with optional enclosed storage or a boarded loft above.

The work
The cart lodge is an East Anglian building. It started as an open fronted shelter for carts and implements on farms across Suffolk and Norfolk, and it survives because the idea is a good one: covered parking and dry storage without the cost, the planning weight or the visual bulk of a garage.
Built well it is a timber frame on a proper base, with the posts, plates and braces sized and jointed to carry the roof, clad and tiled to sit comfortably against the house. Built badly it is a carport with pretensions. The difference is in the frame, and the frame is carpentry, which is what we do.

Straight answers. Where something depends on your property, we say so rather than guessing.
A cart lodge is an open fronted timber framed outbuilding, traditional across Suffolk and Norfolk, used for covered parking and storage. It differs from a garage in being open fronted and timber framed rather than enclosed and masonry built, which makes it lighter in appearance and generally simpler to build.
